Official U.S. passport photo rules (quick view)
- Size: 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm), square
- Head height: 25–35 mm (1–1⅜ in) from top of hair to bottom of chin
- Eyes: positioned in line with the camera lens; colored portions clearly visible, not obstructed or covered by hair
- Background: white or off-white — no shadows, texture, objects or lines
- Expression: may smile, but eyes open and mouth closed (avoid exaggerated expressions)
- Glasses: not allowed (since 1 Nov 2016), except medical exemption
- Hats: not allowed (religious/medical exceptions only)
- Taken within the last 6 months; no filters, digital retouching, or AI enhancement
- Print on matte or glossy photo-quality paper
- No red eye; not blurry, grainy, or pixelated
